Help me with my Ram installation.

I had 2 sticks of 512. I bought a 1 gig stick. I installed it buy now its showing us as 1.5 gigs instead of 2 gigs. WTF? I tried bunch of positions but that didnt work. I have 4 slots with 3 sticks. I also updated my mobo bios and that didnt help.

are they dual channel? and does your mobo support dual channel?

Try each by itself to rule out a bad stick.

What motherboard are you using and what memory modules do you have?

Try installing the one 512MB module in the first blue slot (DIMM1) and one in the first black slot (DIMM3), then the 1GB module in the second blue slot (DIMM2).

weird, imo it's not a bad stick, since he was running the two 512s before we know that they are good, and if the 1GB stick was bad, only 1 GB (the two 512s) would show up, not 1.5GB, maybe the two different brands of RAM aren't playing nice together, or is it 3 brands...? were the 512s the same brand...?

I dont think its a bad ram stick because I checked my computer before the installation an it said 1 gig.

I find it kinda strange that the QVL doesn't list any 1GB sticks, only up to 512, but it "supposedly" supports up to 4GB...
