Heat probe

Would placing a small heat probe between my processor and heat sink inhibit heat transfer badly?

Its the heat probe in the NZXT Lexa Blackline, and I would only place the tip of it in there, about 2 square mm of surface area would be blocked.

Has anyone done this before?

Afaik it is not a recommended practise.

It's not the surface area that counts, it is the contact area, by inserting something foreign between the surfaces you are creating a gap to the next contact point.

This is not good, thermal paste will fill this gap but that is not an ideal solution.

The best you can do is to lay the probe alongside the chip/socket.
