I still cant seem to find the right RAM for my build. This is what i have so far.

mobo: Asus Maximum extreme

Video: Sapphire Radeon HD 4870

Cpu: Q9450

HD: 2x western digital 160 gb

HD: 2x western digital 500gb

window vista home premium 64 bit

Ok so i want something fast. Looking at 4gb preferably, seeing as i do alot of multi-tasking. my budget is no more than 400. Thanks for the help.

The fastest memory your board supports is DDR3 1800.

These should do the trick and come in just under your $400 limit: OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1800

While not as fast, another good option would be the CORSAIR XMS3 DHX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600. Corsair makes some reliable stuff and it'll save ya some cash.

great pick AR, dude, go with the Corsair, good brand name and cheaper, at those speeds, you shouldn't even notice the difference...

Does your motherboard support DDR2? If it does, DDR3 is just not worth it ATM because of the limitations of the FSB. Get some 1066 DDR2 so your Q9450 will not be limited in it's OC.

The Asus Maximus Extreme only supports DDR3.
