Video converter

Anyone know of any good program that converts video to different formats? I'm wanting to convert a rmbv file to avi or mpg. I have ConvertXtoDVD, but that only encodes to DVD format. Also, whats the best high quality file format for watching videos on the computer?

I use Prism video converter. Its free and encodes the following.

.avi
.wmv
.asf
.mpg
.3gp
.mp4
.mov
.flv

There is a host of encode options to change the bit rates and sound formats. .Avi is the most popular format but it can depend on the file your converting.

total video converter converts to a whole bunch of different formats, but it practically locks up your computer while doing so, I usually convert stuff overnight with it, when I know I won't be using the computer for anything else, but it converts to just about any format you could want...
