Computer not starting

Unless it's in safe mode. My boyfriend had gotten a virus, but he got rid of it. There doesn't appear to be a virus at all on it anymore. The virus scanners aren't finding any at all. It's just being slow... and now not starting at all.

He got rid of some conflicting programs, and that seemed to work for a while. Then it went haywire again. What's more is another computer of the exact same make is acting the same way! And it's hardly been used and didn't have a virus on it.

Anyone know why it might be acting strange like this?

It's a windows xp on an acer from about 5 years ago.

yer download ccleaner, and clean it, then give it a defrag, and restart, should clean it up miles better.

give it a few hours on the defrag.

goodluck

what do you mean as in not starting. does the computer even power on? if it gets past the bios stage, i suggest reformatting because windows is probably corrupted
