Ok. FINALLY, I'm about to order parts for my new computer. Obviously, I'm going to wait for the launch of the 4870 HD, and buy two of them.

So I originally was certain that I'd go with the Q6600 and OC it to 3.2-3.4 ish. However, it's quite a old processor now, and I'm wondering if there's now a better way to go?

The Q6700 is only $70 more, would this be the better choice? What about AMD?

Thanks :)

I saw that too....how well does the 8400 overclock?

What about the 8500:

?

The 8500 can do 4.2ghz on air apparently :O

Absolutely amazing chip. This thing will not only run or OC well, but OC's 4.2 Ghz on AIR. Speed and rates as well as load times etc etc etc are painlessly fast and efficient. Recently just built a Quad-Core Q6600 and this just embarassed it. Bravo Intel, bravo.

Woah... o_O

only difference is higher clock speed between the 8400 and 8500. so if u have the money go for the 8500

If you want quad core go with Q9300 or Q9450. They are 45nm quad cores and are $270 and $340

I'm not sure if I do...this will be for games.

The Q9300 and the E8500 are priced exactly the same..which would be the better choice?

I always argue the point that all newer games will optimize Quad cores. But I would go with the E8500 because it can overclock so high if you plan on gaming right now.

The Q9300 OC'ing ability is severly limited by the 7.5x multi. Xbit pushed one to 3.5GHz, but that's the max. Plus it only has half the L2 cache of the E8xxx, 3MB vs 6MB.
The E8400 is the one to go for if this is for games.

If you absolutely want a quad then I would recommend the Phenom 9850 Black Edition.

I just want whatever performs best xD

I'm leaning towards the E8500 (going to try to OC to about 4.2GHZ...saw a ton of success stories on Newegg)....will it there be a significant gain in performance over the E8400 to justify the price?
