ok on a scale of 1-10 in graphics card knoledge id put myself at about 5

not i do no the 8600 isnt that great of a card so consider some of these.

now ill openly admit im not sure abot graphics cards its not my strong point but i thought id point them out for other members to comment on

Is that a good power supply, I mean is a good brand and does it have all the connections i would need for that computer. Also I read a couple of reviews for that and it said it was a big power supply, would it fit in the Hp
 
i think the 8800 might need more on 450 with a decent brand name.

im not sure if your aware of this but a 600 Watt cheap PSU will be equivalent to a 400 Watt named and trusted brand PSU.

again im not 100% sure on the wattage needs of those graphics cards so best to wait for the extreme gamers to post here
 
Yes, the HD 3850 will work since PCIe 2.0 cards are backwards compatible with PCIe 1.0 slots.

If you are willing to spend that much, for $149.99 ($129.99 after $20.00 Mail-In Rebate) the SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 3870 512MB would be your best bet performance wise in that price range. Otherwise the HD 3850 would be a very nice choice in a mid range card.

 
oh yeah i own one of these and im running 450- it works great, you wll LOVE this card its so quiet and runs beautifully.
