Need a little help with printer

Hi;
I have a Lexmark X5100 series printer and an emachines Windows Vista. I plugged in the printer to the power outlet and plugged the USB cable to the computer tower. The print spooler is on.

I click on to print and change my preferences to the Lexmark printer and then I get this error message:

COMMUNICATION NOT AVAILABLE
The printer cannot communicate with the computer.
Try these solutions:
-Disconnect and reconnect the printer's power cable.
-Diconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
-Restart your computer.

I did the recomendations and nothing happened.
 
I am guessing that you don't have the vista drivers installed on your computer. check out printcountry follow the directions and you should be able to get the drivers.

The printer used to work though. What happened was that our XP computer broke and we got a Vista instead. I am so confused :(
 
you need different drivers for vista than you used with xp as it's a completely different operating system
just do what was suggested and it should work
 
Thank you so much, but I found a new problem...
When I download it, it says to put in a disk, but I only have the disk for XP.

EDIT:
I actually found out what to do. I just needed to restart the computer. thank you so much for your help :)
