Sound card and 5.1 Surrond sound speakers

okay im a little confused
im looking into getting a sound card and getting an awesome set of speakers
the speakers are 5.1 ch so... should i get 5.1 speakers or 7.1?
im getting this bb pc

i dont know which i should do?
im thinking the 5.1 PCI slot or should i get one that is PCIE x1
and put a tv tuner card on PCI?

ok, here is the deal man.

Unless u ready to spend $100+ on a good sound card, dont even bother getting anything else. The on board sound from u 780I mobo will do u just fine.

This is the best sound card on the market. might be 2 much for u tho.

okay
ive looked over all of the specs on those speakers
and i have yet to figure out if they can connect through the SPDIF?
and does that make any differance on the audio quality?

Onboard sound is crap, period. It doesn't matter how much gadgetery it has on it. Its just seriously bad (I have my experience)

A good sound card, for good speakers needs Optical in my opinion, though SPDIF is a digital connection also.

If you get a sound card that handles Dolby Digital, game sound would be amazing (that is as long as PC games support Dolby Digital? Strange if they don't considering consoles do)

Even my Creative X-Fi sound card doesn't support Dolby Digital, and to get 5.1 in games, I have to connect them to a Direct port, with the 3 wires to get surround sound, whereas, my Xbox 360 plugs straight up with Optical, and my speakers say "YAY, Dolby Digital", and run in 5.1 flawlessly with no loss.

so your saying get a sound card.
but which one? should i get the 5.1 PCIE x1? or 5.1 PCI? or should i go with the 7.1 options?

Its up to how much speakers you want to have.
5.1 is standard nowdays, and to be honest, for a PC setup, its fine.
You won't find a great 7.1 speaker system on the market, unless you buy seperate parts.

As for the connection type, it really depends on what connection your motherboard has.

My card for example is a PCI card, but if you have a motherboard supporting PCI-E 1x, and a card supports it you want, then yeah

PCIx if you mbd will take it.I have the asus P5K-VM MBD.
It has a PCI EXPRESS x4 and x16,no PCI-E 1x.
Check this before buying sound card.

my mobo will have
2 PCI slots
1 PCIE x1 slot
3 PCIE x16 slots
its managing which components to go where
that will be the hard part

Just say Yes i know that,Not .......what ? I'm not a mind reader.
Just buy components that match your slots,they have different
types of connectors and are described on the box or website products.
Thats not hard.I'm trying to explain what i learned and did correctly.
