Front Panel Audio No Worky?!?!?

I have this mobo

and this case

and I cannot seem to get my front panel audio to work. When I stick headphones in the jack it gives some static and all but realtek manager does not recognize that I input anything like it does on rear i/o panel.

All I can think of is that the front audio jacks have something to do with the firewire ports. My mobo does not support firewire so the plug for that is hanging in case.

Did you plug the audio wires coming from the front panel into the correct pins on the motherboard?

Some also have jumpers that need to be removed to enable the front audio ports.

in mobo manual it talks about inter high def audio (hd) or ac'97. idk which my case is. how do i find this out?

If anything, it's just plain ol' AC'97. So you should read how to activate AC'97 functioninality via the audio software in Chapter 5, "Configuring 2/4/5.1/7.1-Channel Audio.

I can't see the case being HD since it simply has just a MIC and a single LINE-OUT port.
