Hello--

I recently reformatted my computer and installed windows xp pro. I have never had problems like this before, but this time windows is not detecting my audio device...which is integrated into my motherboard. The motherboard is an ATI Rs400. The sound device is listed under EVEREST as ATI SB450.

Please Help!!!!!

Thank you:rolleyes:

Hey there.

You need to re-install the driver software for your on board audio device.

It should be available to download from the motherboard website.

so far, i have tried about four different drivers for the motherboard

They are still not allowing it to be detected in windows...

As I said, i have gotten audio before even without installing drivers

No worries.

Click on Start>>Control Panel>>System>>Hardware>>Device Manager.

Is there an Explanation/Question mark on the Audio Device?

umm--not really
I expand the "sound, video and game controllers" tab, but all i see is a bunch of codecs-

I dont even see the audio device listed in device manager

thnx again

EDIT:
actually--there are a few explanation marks---

they are next to:
PCI Device
PCI Simple communications controller
and Unknown Device

could one of those be the audio card?

thanks

The unknown device could be the on-board audio device. The explanation marks on the PCI mean you need driver software to run those devices. Like what ever is connected to the PCI connectors.

If it's an unknown device it's very likely that it hasn't been activated in the BIOS.

Check the BIOS and make sure the On-Board Audio option is selected.

Yes, its enabled

Thanks so much for your help--i really need to get this going tonight as i have a video project due on monday that I have to edit
