o, I plan to build a new computer in the summer; possibly June or July. I was wondering if any major advances in CPU's/gfx cards/etc... will be coming up to lower some of the prices now.

I basically did a little check for the prices and types of parts I want with what is out now.
My budget is roughly 1100 CDN

I guess it will be easier for most of you in the states, if I used newegg.

Any suggestions will be great. I might switch the SLI into just one 8800GT. I'm also looking for a monitor as well. Any suggestions? 22" preferably.

Basically, I want some recommendations for a $1100 build now, hoping that BY june, advances will have push the parts down to maybe $900. Allowing me to pick up a 2nd 22" monitor =)

Motherboard: For god's sake don't recommend a 650i. They are pretty awful chipsets and only have 16 PCI-E lanes. I swearb a P35, they are great boards for single GPU sconfigurations and can reach much higher FSB speeds than Nvidia chipsets. http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16813130098

CPU: In case you don't know, the E7200 is out. 45nm process 9.5x multi and 4GHz overclocked with air cooling. The E6550 is limited by it's 7x multi. http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16819115052

RAM: Here, it depends whether you'd be running XP or Vista. You can run anything on XP with 2GB, but with Vista, I found that upgrading to 4GB brought a noticable performance increase. Video card: Sure, that 8800GT has a nice cooler, but due to the fact that it has the same memory modules and PCB, it will no overclock any better, you can spend $70 less and get the same card. The HD 4800s will also be coming out in late may so you might want to pick one of them up as they're looking very good. I know this isn't for me but the E8400 looks good. Stock 3000MHz and OC's of more than 4000MHz it's not bad for 200 Bucks.

I would spend a little more on the PSU supplying these components. The less you pay for a PSU the worse it is. And the efficiency rating isn't that good for this PSU.

It's up to you to decide if you think it's worth spending a little extra to get the 6MB of L2 cache or not. There are benchmarks here: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core2duo-e7200_5.html#sect1
It has the same multipliers as the E8400 (6-9) so overclocking is almost as good.

I have no experience with that brand, but like Remeniz said, it's efficiency is quite low so it's going to waste a fair but of power and will therefore produce more heat. And the OCZ is actually cheaper. BeQuiet like Remeniz recommended are a high quality brand. Fairly new, but 88% efficiency is the best I've seen.

Hehe, big is beautiful. It's an all aluminium construction as it's of very high quality. I have the black one myself. Got it a few days ago and I love it. Lots of space, great cooling and loads of clever features.
