hello eveyone recently my computer decided to stop working something with the motherboard apparently as it fails to start up. So i decided to get a entirely new mobo/cpu combo and im deciding between .

Asus M2N-SLI Motherboard CPU Bundle - AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Processor 3.20GHz Retail

XFX nForce 680i LT SLI Motherboard CPU Bundle - Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Processor 2.66GHz Retail

Is the core 2 alot better then the 64 X2 6400?

Also here is the real problem since im only upgrading the mobo/cpu i'm keeping the same ram, PC 3200 OCZ dual Chan 2.5-3-3-7, and the hard-drive. What will happen when i plug in a hard-drive that is saved with old mobo settings/ect and try to run it on a completely different configuration. how do i overwrite the mobo drivers without formatting?

Also anyone know if 400W is enough power for the above configurations?

First, are you sure this is the problem? Have you tried tested the mobo in another system? If it doesn't turn on then it could just be the PSU.

The RAM you have is DDR, most new motherboards support DDR2, so you will need some different memory:
2GB for XP:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208283
Or 4GB for Vista: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211271
I recommended those kits of RAM based on the assumption that you are not overclocking. If you are, then tell me and I'll find some more suitable memory.

Don't buy a combo BTW. Your choice is often limited.
The Core architecture does scale better clock for clock than the Athlon, but they are also more expensive. The 6400 X2 performs at a similar level to the E6750 even though the Intel part is clocked slower.
I would recommend the Intel TBH, because it will be more energy efficient than the AMD part and has much more overclocking potential. But buy this mobo instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059
and the E8200: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115047&Tpk=e8200 which is one of the new 45nm Wolfdales and replaces the E6750. I has a larger L2 cache and is more energy efficient.

When you are looking for you new HDD, make sure that it uses a SATA interface and not IDE. The manufacturer of the hard drive will have software available for download that will allow you to transfer everything to your new hard disk.

I need more information on the power supply. What is the brand and model.

Ty for the help worship but i got a few questions.

I am not intrested in simply building a new PC. I don't want to buy a new harddrive or ram. I was wondering if it wou be possible to use my old CPU and DDR RAM.

If not I would like to buy this ram.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2206874

is that compatible with the motherboard and cpu you suggested.

Also the processor you linked me has no feedback unlike this one:

should i still get the one you suggested. Thanks alot

Sorry, I misunderstood your first post. I thought you wanted to copy your old stuff onto a new HDD.
You won't be able to use DDR RAM in any of the modern mobos. But if your CPU is a socket LGA775, then you can keep it.

That is a brilliant memory kit, I have the same and it OC's to 1100MHz!
The E8200 is the same as the E8400 but running at a lower clock speed, so it's a bit cheaper, but if your current CPU is LGA775, you won't have to buy another one.

Umm I might be seeing this wrong but, you cant take your old harddrive out a diffrent motherbored and put it on a brand new one and think your xp will be on it, this will become unstable.

I think I understand you

Yes, although in very rare cases he may be able to get away with a repair install, but he should back up all his important data before just in case.
