i have a dell dimensions 8300. its pretty much stock except i added 512 more MB of RAM from 1GB. i bought a new sound card, which is the Soundblaster XtremeGamer one, and a friend gave me his old video card which is the nVidia 5200.

for a person who runs a lot of apps, watches a lot of movies and listens to music, and games every now and then, what upgrades are recommended?

Well, what do you want out of your computer? Is it slow, or is there something that bothers you? Personally I don't see it having any problems with your needs except two things:

1. You could use more RAM if you multitask and have multiple programs/windows open at the same time.

2. The video card obviously should be upgraded if you're playing some newer games.

yh system looks ok to me,

i mean a p 4 at 3Ghz is still not a bad processor and can play with some of the low end C2D's the RAM well you have a sufficient amount shame its not DDR2 but lets not go there,

so yeah looks like jus the video card that needs an upgrade,

you cant really get a better socket 478 processor so thats ok until you upgrade your motherboard, same for the RAM cant upgrade to DDR2 until you get new motherboard,

so if you have a fairly big budget you could basicly get all new motherboard, CPU and RAM

or if its only a smallish busget it suggest upgrade video card

i live in the US. i got my computer about four years ago. so i guess its kind of outdated? and with 1.5 GB or RAM its definately not the fastest.. but i did notice when i upgraded from 1GB, computer ran faster.

and whats the difference of ddr and ddr2?

and is my processor still considered a good processor for its age and kind?
