alright so i think it started sometime this morning or last night, ran my mcAfee 2 times already, ran adware and spypot to try to get rid of it, but nothing has worked. i keep gettin Spyware alert pop up's and warnings. i did see that when i restarted my computer that 2 icons kept coming up, programs called, easy cleaner, privocy protector and spyware&malware protection. did notice that a pop up would come up to website of where it is advertised. also my internet explorer opens to the homepage http://softwarereferral.com/jump.php?wmid=6010&mid=MjI6Ojg5&lid=2, displaying nothing. also notice that in the bottom right hand corner of the screen a stopsign with a white x will pop up every once a while flashing. i think it might of been from a activex controler that i tried to download.

if anyone has any input on how to remove it that would be awesome!

I would run NOD32 instead of McAfee, it's much better at detecting stuff and is lighter on resources. You can download a 30 day trial here: http://www.eset.com/download/free_trial_download_eav.php You might want to uninstall McAfee before running NOD32 because there could be a conflict between the two Antivirus programs.
For anti spyware you could try adaware 2007: http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2007/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?tag=pop.software
Also hijackthis is a good program that lets you get rid of stuff that scanners sometimes miss. Download it here: http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html?tag=lst-1 When you run it make sure you copy and paste the log file here: www.hijackthis.de and delete anything that comes up as "nasty." Hopefully that will do it.
For future reference if you want to stop programs from changing your homepage you could download win patrol: http://www.download.com/WinPatrol-2007/3000-8022_4-10129149.html?tag=lst-2
Spyware blaster is another good program which protects your computer from spyware before it installs itself: http://www.download.com/SpywareBlaster/3000-8022_4-10196637.html?tag=lst-2

Hopefully that helps, those programs should tell enough about them in the descriptions but if you need anymore help feel free to ask.

You could also try running the scans in safe mode and see if that helps.

Like troy above, I would reccomend using NOD32 over McAfee.

ok well i ran those programs like ya'll said. even did it in safe mode. well now i try to run windows normally and it wont. it freezes at my desk top. can't open anything or do anything. now what?

Boot up in safe mode, back your crap up, and start over lol (reinstall windows)... at this point that would prob. be the easiest route.

Before you reinstall, try sfc /scannow (assuming you are running XP, it may work in Vista also, unsure there), start > Run > sfc /scannnow, note the space between c and the /, you must type it correctly or it won't run. It is the system file checker and will replace/repair corrupt Windows system files.

Second alternative is a repair install (not the recovery panel)

If neither of those work then I guess a reinstall is inevetible.

ok....got my computer workin again...well...still have the virus(s)...did get rid of the privacy protector/spware&malware protection/error cleaner when i ran smitfraud. but i think it all went bad when i tried to run my virus scans and what not in safe mode. but now im back to the beginning, have all the shit again. i did notice though that i got rid of the one virus, but i still had another one...this sucks...what now?

ok...well most of the virus is gone....im still gettin a few pop ups and stillave a yellow triangle with an ! in the bottom right corner of the screen. i am gettin a pop up now thats an adware type thing i believe...it says "Security System Warning File: C://WINDOWS\wml.exe Threat: Abebot" tried to do a print screen and add it on here through photobucket but could get it to work. anyone know how to get rid of that one?
