I've been trying to set up firefox to use a proxy, but it's not working. When I manually configure the proxy settings I can't browse the web at all, probably because my isp blocks those certain ports. I tried setting an automatic proxy url and it works, but websites can still see my ip so what's the point? Is there other way I can hide my ip when I browse?

if your ISP blocks the well known proxy ports.

8080, 3128...

then it's unlikely that you'll be able to get to those sites on the proxy ports (cause they're blocked).

you'd need to raise this with your ISP.

if they've blocked it at the firewall level then there is likely to be no work around for this other than using a proxy on a different port.
