At least from that level, it seems like its mostly gone back to its 2D scrolling side

I'm not really keeping my hopes up though. I haven't bought any of the newer 3D sonic titles.

Sega has really killed Sonic with recent games... I have my doubts that this one is going to be any better.

I also hope they go back to the traditional routes with the music. I don't like Sonic being considered a Rock hedgehog. In the past he was more of a Techno/trance headgehog, and I think it suits him better.
Get rid of all music with a voice, especially if its going to be anything like Sonic Rush
