Upgrading Old PC - Lots of Questions

I'll start off by saying I'm 15 years old and have some knowledge about computers but I'm not expert and want to start understanding things more.

I have an old computer which originally had windows 98 but now has 2000 and has a Pentium III processor. I wanted to build a totally new computer but figured it might be easier to just upgrade the old one so I don't have to buy new optical drives, power supply (200W), HDD and a case. What I know want to do is replace the processor, RAM, mobo and videocard.

Here are the parts I'm looking into getting:

Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116036
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188017
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134635
Video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102536

Are those parts all compatible with each other? Will I be able to swap out those for the parts i currently have?

If you need any more info about something let me know and I appreciate any help, thanks!

P.S. What does it mean that is is "Open Box"? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813153075R

That will all work yes, but you'll want a better power supply. You'll want to consider a new SATA hard drive since the board you picked out only has one IDE channel, and mixing DVD drives with hard drives isn't the best.

Also, Open Box means that product was returned to newegg. Usually they are still good, however seeing that that board is made by jetway, I would stay away.

Thanks :) What would you recommend for a power supply? Is 380W good? And I also noticed the the processors FSB is 800MHz while the mother boards is 1066/1333MHz. Just want to make sure that is okay (even though you said it will work).

Thanks again.

The PSU zKILLA recommended will be fine. I don't know if you know anything about overclocking, but if you're not going to be OC'ing, then I recommend going with an AMD platform: Like this:
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813135069
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103735
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144062 This RAM has CAS 4 latencies compared to the much higher CAS 6 timings of the RAM you linked to in your OP.

So if I plan on OC'ing I should stick with the intel setup? What I like about the AMD setup is that it's way cheaper. What do you guys think, should I spend a little extra and go with Intel or go with the AMD setup? Which would I get a better performance from?

P.S. I think I'm going to turn this into a little summer project for myself and build a totally new PC instead of upgrading.

Thanks for that article, that was a good read for me. I think I'm going to go with the Intel setup. I'll probably get some more questions soon but thanks for the help and suggestions! +rep
