I saw a Nvidia 7800 GTX OC for $100, is that a good price...?

some what you could try for like 80 but what kind of gaming are you planning on using it for?

It's a decent buy, but considering you can buy the 8800GS for about $140, and it will perform 40% better... Keep your eye out for something like an X1950XTX as well.

I don't game, just want a good video card that can handle any video I throw at it, I had a problem with the Sugar Bowl (OSU vs LSU) that I had converted to H264 avi format, the video kept freezing even though the audio was still running, that hasn't happened since I installed my E6600 though so I figured it was the processor, but my video card is pretty basic (6200LE) and I would like to upgrade...

You don't need something like the 7800GTX then. An 8400GS or a HD 3450 wil do nicely.

I would recommend you go with an 8800GS or an overclocked 8600GTS, they'll give you better performance for the same/lower price.

The GeForce 7-Series had a good run but they've long since past their prime. I'd suggest an 8800GTS 320MB/640MB actually (the old one) - i've seen them for $160-170 and they'll perform equal-to or slightly better than the 8800GT. They're just not as efficient and they're rather big.

That's just a suggestion if you want to spend the least money and get the most performance. Optimally though you'd want one of the mid-range 512MB 8800GT's (you can find one for $200-$210 i'm sure). They're more easily overclockable and efficient, and they're more advanced (and thus a better buy).

And the G80 8800GTS is around 20% slower then the 8800GT. The 8600GTS is made obsolete now because of the HD 3850 which is a much better performer.

Really? I've read benchmarks showing that the 8800GTS G80 was equivalent to the 8800GT G92 performance wise?

I don't remember which site it was from, but I guess its possible that they named it incorrectly (G80 instead of G92).

The 8800GTS G92 only performs about 5% better than the 8800GT so that's probably what you were thinking of.
