Ok, about that computer I was building...

Nope. No offense but this proves you are not ready for that repair business you were talking about.

big problem is RAM. First you chose low-end DDR. If your buying DDR, get PC3200, not PC2700. Second of all, the motherboard does not take DDR, but DDR2.

Third, that motherboard only has one IDE channel. If you have an IDE Optical drive as well, that would mean you have to put both device on the same chain which will drastically slow the computer down. spend the extra $5 and get a SATA II hard drive.

It's fine, the only mistake I made was the ram. I didn't mean to do that. But everything else is fine. Because it's an old computer to begin with. It's my first computer I've built. But I have fixed many computers.

If it's an old computer, why that motherboard? That is money wasted. What processor are you putting in it, what video card (and technology) is going in that?

Wait a minute, you can't put DDR RAM in a 680i motherboard. And DDR2 is actually cheaper than the older DDR nowadays. And you definitely should be buying a SATA II HDD. Try this:

And make sure the CPU you're going to be using is a SKT775.

Or if this is going to be a budget build, you'd be better off with an AMD motherboard and CPU:

or OEM if you already have the HSF: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103214
