well it probably is a computer for windows xp if its using pc-133 sdram, try out windows xp and let us know whats up or, put windows 98 back on and see the specs

Umm,No.PC133 is WAY Older than XP,XP PC's mainly used DDR and DDR2......

Also That Hardrive is fine.

If you don't wanna game use a Linux distro. If your a power-user who's very competent I would highly reccomend Gentoo Linux.

If you want something easy to install and very easy to use, Ubuntu is going to be better.

They use less resources than XP and most certainly Vista, so the system will be much faster and responsive. Make a list of all the programs you're going to want to use on your computer and make sure they're linux compatible.

Plus these OS don't take up as much room as their Windows counterpart, saving you room on your 80gb harddrive. 80gb should last you a fairly long time, I have had my computer for over a year and have only used up 40gb of my 150 available (and I have a couple of legally ripped movies and a fairly extensive music library). Just get a secondary hdd later down the road when/if you do fill it up.

Well, acually, I changed my mind. I'm going to get a new motherboard. But I need someones advice on this because I have never gotten a motherboard. I was thinking this one:

Start from scratch, upgrading that computer would just end up costing more in the long run. In a year that computer should be thrown into a computer recycling center. Heres a list of things that you would LOVE if you bought them. These parts compared to your computer would make a huge improvement.

If you want to upgrade your computer your better off just starting from scratch. That set up would probably be about 5 times faster than your computer would ever be even if you upgraded.
The price comes around 400 bucks.

Don't double post for starters, a mod can ban you for that Just ask what happened to Brookfield.
As for an OS, if you don't mind venturing away from windows you could try a Linux distro. There are thousands of them and most are free, it would be a good learning experience. Just don't expect to play games on it because linux isn't meant for that. If you want to stay with windows, go with XP. It's better on lower end systems. Vista is good but it needs some extra resources that a low end PC will not be able to supply. The computer NEED WOW NOW provided links to is a pretty good one. AMD parts are dirt cheap and provide a good bang for your buck. That system will be great for XP, but if you want vista to run good I'd recommend at least 2GB RAM. That isn't a gaming computer either but it will be more than enough power for most things and is priced very reasonably.
