like lets say i learn java, will I be able to program in javascript?

not necessarily. but it will teach you a lot of programming concepts that are almost universal to all languages.

learning Java will let you write Java based programs and java net apps.

learning java script will enable you to write scripts for net pages.

the two are not fundamentally interchangeable, but the concepts of programming are,
learning [insert real programming language here] will give you a concept of the fundamental programming practices used in most languages such a Java, C, C++ etc.

I am Agree with you. Programming is very important than Script. With Java Applets you can create a nice page like with javascript.
