How to make a video, of whats on your computer screen?

I've seen this done in a few other videos, but what I am trying to do is make a video for instance of me surfing the internet, but not with a camera I am holding, one that actually looks as if it was your screen. It's hard to explain, maybe someone will get it.

There seem to be a lot of good looking screencasting software on the market right now. I found a link that has 12 screencasting tools for both macs and pcs. Take a look and see what you like and don't like.

I think a lot of them require a little playing around with to see what works for you and what doesn't. Plus the platform really matters, too.
