My friend wanted me to clean out his old old computer. So it's been going pretty good. I've fixed many problems and got rid of virus etc. But after all of that the computer still tends to freeze, it not as fast as I would like it to be. Does any one have any good methods for cleaning out computers? Good software? Please share. :D

download ccleaner and spybot search and destroy
run a defragment
start>run>"msconfig" and remove some of the un needed startup items
id start with that. also free some more space if possible. more = better :)

I've done all of that, except when ever i try to defragment it freezes and say its not responding.

how much disc space is free. it ideally needs 15% or more to work. also how long do you leave it?
if its badly fragmented give it a while, it might unfreeze
