sata hdd is not detected by vista or my bios!!

so i just got finished building my new rigg with a western digital 500gb sata hard drive and a gigabyte ga-p35-ds3l motherboard. The hard drive does not show up in my bios even if i try to detect it, and when i try to install vista it dosent show up either. any suggestions? thanks

I'll start with the easy stuff here, Is it plugged into power, and a data cable securely connected between the drive and the port on the motherboard?

yes everything is in its right place. sata cable is connectd from the mobo to the hdd and power is connected to the hdd as well. do i need some special sata drivers for vista or something? ive tried to install the drivers that came with my mobo during the vista installation but nothing happened
