Prime95 stressing too much?

i can not see the difference between 2.4 and 3.4, but my temps are 21c at 3.4 ghz , so its not like temps are a problem in my computer

Me?? I'll probably drop back to 3.0GHz, our weather is forecast for 30's next week and I don't want to be running at 3.6GHz in 30+°C

3.2 GHz (400*8) is stable as a rock so I'm going back to 3.0GHz and play around with overclocking my memory some more, I'd dearly love to get it to work at 1600MHz but it appears I'll have to exceed the top of the voltage range (1.7v) to achieve this, not sure if I want to risk $600 worth of RAM yet lol

ahh, that's right you have got that DDR3 ram , that would be sorta different overclocking wouldn't it

Yeah, it's a pain in the butt actually, I'll never get to run it at 1:1 because I can't find a board/cpu combo that will run a 533MHz FSB so I'm stuck to messing with dividers which is not ideal. At 3.0GHz (333*9) and 1333MHz at least I'm running 1:2.

Data transfer is smoother at 1:1 than 1:2 because you're not trying to push twice as much data down the "same sized pipe" (so to speak) as you are at 1:2

You'd probably never notice the difference in real life but it shows up as a difference in Memory Latency as some data has to "wait" to be delivered thereby giving a higher latency.

DDR2 800MHz memory is perfect for me. I always use the 1:1 divider and either 400x8 (memory 800MHz) or ATM I'm running 385x9 (1.4 Vcore, 1.55V north bridge and 1.5V CPU PLL voltage). When I get a better PSU and cooler or I get round to lapping my current one I'll probably try and get it up to 3.6GHz with 400x9. And memory will be running at 800MHz. So I think PC2 6400 is just right for me. When the Nehalems come around is when I'll make the switch I think.

I've still got 4GB sitting here in my old P5K board, I'm thinking of dropping this Q6600 in P5K and putting an E8400 in this P5E3 after the April 20th price drops.

yer , thats a good idea, im running 425x8 =3.4,
and ram is 850mhz . 1:1 with cpu ,
so easy with 800mhz ram lol

I so want to swap my Q6600 for an E8400. But I need a new PSU and case more than I need a fractionnaly faster CPU.
