My buddy is going to bring over a copy of ubuntu today and im going to install it on this old HP i have. Right now its running windows 98 and i was wondering how can i dual boot 98 and ubuntu.
Basically what im asking is how can i move 98 to its on little spot on the HDD so that part of the HDD is ready for ubuntu.

The HDD is only about 38Gb by the way.

ubuntu has a built in partition manager. just resize the main partition, make a new one, and install ubuntu on the new one :)

Hm.. so since ubuntu has the built in partition manager should i just put in the ubuntu disk and some menu will come up and ask how i want to do it?

shuv in the disc and boot from it. when its loaded it there will be an "install" icon on the desktop. just click it and it will guide you through the setup. or you could just not install it and run it as a live cd (kinda suckish)

ubuntus good. if you have the time and effort it could easily be used instead of windows. i have neither :p

when i said "i have neither", i meant time and effort.
im running xp pro (well media centre technically).
