Theres probably a way to remove the HUD.

Yeah, probaly but I just take them as I go through. The hud doesn't take much away for me. That, and I'm to lazy to take it off, then put it back on.

how do u get the cube?

It is done by using Compiz Fusion. You need a video card with 3D acceleration and a X window manager that supports these effects. Most people knows about XGL, but AIGLX is more flexible and less resource intensive.
