you have not used vista on a lappy with a whopping 1.9 ghz proc and an amazing 2 gigs of ram. with vista it is so slow it makes me want to throw myself of a cliff or bridge.

And you hang out in a computer forum...
I have the HP dv6205us. T2060 C2D 1.6ghz with 1.5 gig of ddr2 667 ram and a 80 gig HD. The video comes from Intels chip set. I'm running vista also. In 22 seconds my laptop goes from high performance on to totally off.
My secret?
Routine maintenance.

Any laptop will become a POS if you don't take proper care of it.

As for mac's, any platform is going to have good points, and bad. It comes down to what you want to do and what platform has the features you want or need. IMO it's not that mac is better than a pc over all and vice versa. Just find the one that fits your wants and needs.

my needs are gaming and school work my laptop fulfills one of those which is school work. boot times are bad on mine cause i dual boot with ubuntu. shutting off is the problem cause usually it is like 10 minutes than randomly it will shut down in like a less than a minute.
