I'm building a Gaming PC for a friend. He said he wants to be able to play crisis with good settings. so the video card will be the center of the system. His budget is around $700 US
Here is what i have so far
RAM - 2 x 1Gig
video Card- Evga 8800GTS 320Mb

I don't have a processor or motherboard selected, I'm still looking/wanting suggestions. I'm guessing he will need around a 550W PSU.
All Suggestions are welcome! :D ;)

Video card aint going to cut it, you'll need at least an 8800GT 512MB, with the Intel price drops in April the Q6600 will become more affordable, board, probably P35 or X38 chipset, psu may cope at 550W, it will depend on what other devices you put in there.

He'll probably need a bigger budget too btw.

I think it can be done......mabe......probably not. LOL, the more i look into it the more i'm, thinking he's either going to have to lower his standards or raise his budget.

Yeah. Crysis isn't a must..there are plenty of other great shooters out there. He can still build a great gaming rig that can run all games out today on fairly high settings, and maybe even Crysis on medium-ish.

He won't need the Q6600 in my opinion, save the money and get a dual which will give just as good performance in games. And BTW, does he already have an OS?
Here's what I'd choose:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119115- Case.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106070- DVD Burner, SATA so nice thin cables.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136075- Western Digital for $50. He might want something a bit bigger though, but I'm working with a $700 budget.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145034- Corsair XMS2 800MHz 4-4-4-12. Overclocks up to 1066 speeds.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128084- Gigabyte P35 mobo.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171016- PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115031- Intel Core 2 Duo. Highly overclockable.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127329- And a nice 8800GT 512MB.
All that for about $660. There's even enough left for an aftermarket cooler. Who said it couldn't be done?
EDIT: Actually it adds up to $677. Still enough left lo throw a Freezer 7 PRO in. That's a very good gaming rig for $700. If you overclocked it, the system would perform as well as other high end rigs out there with quads and 4GB.

I think that is what im going to do. He doesn't have an OS but you can get vista home premium for 120, and he would be fine with going over some. The $700 isn't set in stone, but its just preferred thing. I can mabe fing one or two things a little cheaper.

I was looking at that processor too. I think I could get it to 2.5 an maybe 2.6 with overclocking.:)
