need some advice buying a gaming computer

Hi, Im new to the forums, hopefully Im posting this in the right section

I have about 1500 (CAD) and I need to buy an entirely new gaming system, well just the actual computer itself, I have everything else including the keyboard, monitor etc..

anyways, I was just wondering if anyone here knew of any good gaming rigs on the market right now that fall within the 1000-1500 price range

Why don't you build your own, you get more bang for the buck that way.

Dell XPS are nice machines, but they can get pretty wild on the price.

I would Build a socket 775 system
with an Intel Q6600, (quadcore)

And get a 8800GTS 512MB (G92) to go along with it.

if you want to go this route and need more detailed specs let me know and i will do a better write up for you.

For gaming I would stay with dual core as almost all games aren't threaded for quads. Here is a guide to building your own PC, you will see, it's actually very easy even though it sounds a daunting task: http://www.buildyourown.org.uk/

Just pick any case and DVD drive you want. For the OS, I would pick Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. But lots of people don't like Vista, andd if you want to, you're fully entitled to stick with XP. And there you have yourself a nice gaming system for a good price. If you have any other questions, then just ask.

myself had no problems with them exept for there shipping time ( org. 5-6 weeks, came out 4 months later almost)

When you initially build your system unless you are seriously strapped for cash , you should go for the quad. when I bought my dual core, most games didn't support multi cores.. All you are doing is preparing for the future.


Also worshipme, a My (G92) GTS would destroy the card you provided a link to, as its a 256MB 8800GT...


The upside to the GTS My friend is there is around a $50 different in price but you get 1. A faster card, 2. A card with a better cooler from the factory, 3. Newegg is doing alot of game bundles with this card (Crysis)

Not that there is anything wrong with the GT, I own one
