gaming operating system

i think i have a great idea that could revolutionize computers
people have probably already thought of it before me but w/e
if you really think about it, xboxs and ps3s are really just crappy
computers in most ways if you could have an operating system
that only does games just like xboxs. pc's have the problem of
running windows that does not only do games.
if you used the computer hardware for games, and only games,
couldn't a crappy computer have the gaming capabilities of an xbox 360?
what do you think? should somebody develop a gaming OS?
if so, please vote yes and hopefully somebody or maybe even you
can create an os so that a 4 year old pc can kick a ps3s ass

Not sure but arent PS3's dual core with like a gig of ram? You would need a pretty damn nice old PC to compare to a PS3. I think the 360 has a tri core IBM processor too. But w/e sounds intresting.

that would be pretty sweet butttttt theres so many so so many people that dont only use there computer for gaming, they use the internet and all that plus the programs, i wouldent wanna have 2 computers, one to game and one to do the rest =\ but still good idea

actually, the ps3 and xbox 360 both have 512 ram
512 shared for the xbox
256 gpu and 256 normal for ps3
the ps3 has like 7 cores, but each of them not very powerful
and the xbox has 3 also not very powerful
im not an expert but im sure there could be a way to optimize a single or duo core pc processor

The PS3 has 7 4.2ghz cores I though. Very powerful processor from what I hear.

still, if you think about it
the ps3 has good specs
but its doing what?
processing a 4-player game
for a 60-inch hi-def tv?
what about processing a 1-player game for a 20-inch monitor

The PS3 has a very nice processor. The trouble is programming to take advantage of it, a feat which has not yet been accomplished at all IMO.

I think the problem with this idea is that you would need to establish certain standards... 3DO anyone? It would pretty much be a console anyway.
