Alright, I know some of you out there have went through the pain of this Red Ring of Death BS. I'm just going to do my day by day log of how the service process is going. I hope this will help some people and I hope maybe make you a little more calmer then I was if you actually do get it.
Feb 11, 2008 About 1 P.M. I just got back from school and tried to turn on my beloved Xbox 360 like I do everyday around this time and when I hit the power button I see the 3 red rings. First I called my friend who it happened to already and he said your basically screwed. So i decided to call the Xbox Service Line (18004699269).
Feb 11, 2008 1:28 P.M.After a little bit of yelling and screaming I called the help number. At first you connect to a voice activated computer called "Max". Max asked me a few questions like whats wrong with it blah blah blah. You get pretty irritated talking to him because you constantly repeat yourself but its really not that hard.
Feb 11, 2008 1:42 P.M.I just got off the phone with Max and finally got a real person to talk to. It was pretty simple, just answered a few Info questions and he told me he was going to send me everything I needed to send it in. He also said 3-5 business days. Then put on hold...
Note:ONLY SEND THE XBOX. Don't send any cords, no harddrive, no controllers, and no custom faceplates. He tells you this but just make sure you listen. Most of the time you can't understand the people your trying to talk to on here.
Feb 11, 2008 1:54 P.M. Just got off of hold. Got everything verified. On hold again... after about 5 minutes I was off of hold and was told to call back in about an hour because the system was updating...
Note: At this time you will be given a reference number. MAKE SURE YOU WRITE THIS DOWN. It will make the process a lot easier when you need to check your xbox service later on. And it will save you a lot of time.
Feb 12, 2008 12:16 P.M. to 12:21 P.M. I just got back from school and called back. It was simple and I only had to answer a few questions this time from "Max". I used my simple reference number they gave me to try and relocate my information and at this time i was talking to a real person now. I found out my Warranty is up but luckily Microsoft covers the whole repair for the "Ring of Death" even without a warranty. Put on hold...
Note: If your console needs to be repaired and their is not blinking red lights you will be charged $49.99.
Feb 12, 2008 12:35 P.M. I just got off hold and I talked to the so called "Specialist" again. He told me i was issued another reference number and to forget about the old one. So i wrote that down. (well actually just typed it in notepad). Once again he went over the whole 3-5 business days to get here and he said 2-3 weeks before I would get it back. (Lets just see about that.)
Note:They will tell you this too but make sure you write the reference number on the box where they can see it. And to check your service update visit http://www.support.xbox.com
Feb 16, 2008 2.20P.M. Still haven't received my box to send it in but it's the weekend so hopefully Monday.
Feb 17, 2008 4:30P.M. I just got home from visiting La Crosse and my box was waiting with everything inside ready to ship it out. The whole process was simple just put the xbox system (with no hdd or accesories) into a plastic bag then put the return label on and they even supply you with the tape to reseal it. Remember to write the reference number clearly on the box and to write down the shipping number on the return label. I will be sending it out tomorrow.
Feb 27, 2008 1:28P.M. I just checked my tracking number and have been over the days and it was just finally yesterday at 11:51 A.M. Thats kind of a long time. Maybe its because I'm from Wisconsin :/.
Mar 6, 2008 13:34P.M. I finally received my xbox and they sent me a brand new one. Mine was kind of older so this one has a hdmi slot also, so I'm pretty pumped about that. They also sent me a 1 month gold membership card for Xbox Live for the time they had it.
Overview: So pretty much it all went pretty simple, I actually borrowed a couple of my friends boxes during the whole process. Customer service was pretty easy and overall I would probably give it a 8/10. Just wish it was a little faster but hey, it broke, and they gave me a brand new one for no charge. To me thats not that bad. I hope this helps all of you guys out there with this same stupid problem.
If anyone has any questions about the process just drop me a PM or email me.
Thanks,
BeasT
