Best setup for video editing??????

I need to build a system to edit video with Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, and would like to know what Motherboard, CPU and Video Card setup would work the best.

I have considered the Phenom or the Q6600 so far as well as the Radeon HD 3870 video card. That is the price range I am looking at, around $250 per item or so.

Also is the Spider platform something to consider or should I go Intel, I have always used AMD in the past.

Thanks for the help,

James

Well, the smartest choice right now would be to wait until the 45nm quads are out. It should be very soon now and the prices will be the same as the current quads.

Also the 3870 is a good card but the newly released 8800GS provides the same performance as it but at a lower price.

Why do you think he should go for a 780i chipset. Unless he wants to do SLI, the X38/P35 chipsets are better performers.

Thanks for the info, I too was wondering if the x38 chipset would not be a better choice for this rig, not sure though. What benefits would the nvidia chipset have over the x38?

The only real benefits an Nvidia chipset has over a P35 or X38 board is SLI support. Intel boards do not support SLI.

Is there any benefit to using Nvidia for the motherboard, graphics card, and RAM across the board, paired up with the Q6600? Or will a x38/p35 board be a better choice with the 8800GT and maybe corsair RAM? I was told that the p35 board has lower latency issues or is more efficient with RAM which is important with preventing dropped frames and so on in video editing.

I am now basically down the the mother board, trying to narrow down the choice, so far ASUS is looking the best, or possibly Abit; Any thoughts on that? I just would like it to have eSATA, and good for video editing. SLI is not important unless SLI would be beneficial for video editing to the extent that it way surpasses a single GPU's performance by allot.

Also, version of the Q6600 should I be looking for or does it really matter that much?

Thanks,

James

An Nvidia video card will not be any faster with an Nvidia chipset than it would with an Intel chipset. A P35/X38 with a Q6600 and some Corsair XMS2 would be a great combination.
The version of the Q6600 you should be looking for is the G0 stepping revision, this is the latest revision from Intel and improves on energy efficiency over the B3 stepping revision.
As for a mobo I'd recommend: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128077 - If you are not overclocking.
