best type of motherboard.

I've got a standard P5K with the P35 chipset and it's very good, nothing fancy, but works very well.
 
Get something with a P35 Chipset, And whatever else you prefer such as 4 PCIE slots.
 
If you are not overclocking then anything that supports a quad core will be fine. If you want to overclock then a P35 or an X38 like ATF said is a must, avoid the Nvidia chipsets unless you want to do SLI.
 
The one I am getting for my Q6600 build is Abit IP35 Pro Board. It was highly recommeded to me and it is a very good overclocker.
 
I've got the abit IP35 pro and i have no problems with it. i haven't over clocked yet but I've heard good things.
