I have a Toshiba 16X Super Multi-Format DVDRW/DVD-RAM Drive, and I need to know what firmware I need to download. I've looked on the Toshiba website, and couldn't figure anything out. I was on with 5 different Gateway support people. And I've been searching for over a week.

I would greatly appreciate any help provided!

The DxDiag shows my optical drive as TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H652D SCSI CdRom Device, but the guys at Gateway told me I have the Toshiba model. My optical drive does work, but I am unable to burn any media. And I really need to put some home movies on a DVD-R disc to ship out to family. Please help me!

did you try not listening to the guys and try the firmware for the drive that you have?

I don't have a backup partition. It was screwed up after I tried dual booting with Ubuntu and Vista. I'm now running only Vista, on one partition. I just need to get that firmware.

And gateway didn't include firmware in the installation disc! :(

So you repartitioned and reformatted I bet. And now you don't get any help from Gateway after you lost your backup partition? I'm not surprised. I upgraded from Vista to XP Pro and had the same problem with them.

I doubt it is a firmware problem. What burning software are you using now? The original programs were on that partition. You cannot use WMP for DVD. Just download a trial version of Power2Go or something like that. BTW, TSST is Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology.

I've used windows dvd-maker and Nero. And it just recognized my dvd-rw drive as a cd drive. That's all it installed as.

Before you do something drastic run system restore to see if the drive works, this has happened to my wifes Toshiba laptop and that fixed it.

The thing is, I don't have any system restore points. They're all after the reformat. :(

I've tried all I could, and all I can think of is getting the firmware. Maybe there is another way, I don't know.

Have you tried removing your burning software and reinstalling that or trying a different burning software?
