I built a computer for audio production usage and we have 2 USB ports on the front and 4 on the back and for the moment I still haven't figured out how to hook up the motherboard pins properly for the 2 front panel USB's to work so we bought a USB hub with 4 additional ports on it to hook into one of the USB's in the back. The problem is that some device will sometimes stop working when plugged into the hub and I'm guessing because the signal is constantly being split to four additional devices on the hub and it is draining each device of power. The hub cost around $16-20 so what is the main problem?

That can be your problem I think. How many usb devices do you have plugged in?

Yeah, the most likely problem is that your devices that are connected to the usb hub are sucking too much power from that 1 usb port on your computer. If you need more usb ports you should try and get 1 of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815166002
