"Crysis" on my newly built computer

But will it make that much of a difference?

It's faster, but not so much it's going to get you what you want out of crysis.

It's the resolution thats really killing you in crysis.

I can play on high with 40+ fps, but thats because I run a 19" CRT at 1024x768. (plenty high enough IMO.)

Thanks for the information guys. I guess I'll sleep on it tonight and make a decision tomorrow. As I mentioned, Warcraft ran beautifully and everything else is perfect, but I was a bit disappointed when I didn't get smooth, perfect graphics for Crysis.

I'll let you guys know what I decide.

(Side note: I'm assuming that my motherboard is NOT SLi-capable, right?)

Correct. You cannot use SLi on that board (thanks.. nvidia. BAH!)

But yeah man, sorry your disappointed, but crysis is a hardware pusher.
It's one of those games that comes by and really gets these graphics card companies to move their butt to make something really powerful.

Rather than buying a new 8800GTS 512mb card now you may be best to wait for Nvida's 9 Series cards to come out. They are supposed to be out around February/March this year.

Do you agree with me though that he should return his 8800GTS 640MB and get the EVGA 8800GT 512MB I linked to? It's $250 which is a good price IMO. And then he could make use of the step-up program when the 9-series comes out.

Erm, that 8800GTS will not like your Power Supply...basically because there is not enough wattage. here, get this one instead:

The new G92 is a lot more energy efficient than the old G80, but Ihuser is right that PSU would still be the borderline. I don't think you'd have to spend more than 100$ though. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341010 This OCZ is quite cheap and has quad 12V rails carrying over 50A.

At 1920x resolution though, what do you expect for a new game such as Crysis?
The 8800GT 512mb will help some, but I still don't think you'd be getting smooth play.
On the next generation of graphics cards though, expect Crysis to get 30fps+

But the 8000, and the 9000 series graphics chips of Nvidia just aren't capable enough to support all the geometry/textures Crysis is pushing out a second at a fast enough rate.
