Using a paralell OS to recover files

Ubuntu :) you can run that off a CD without installing it, you could always swap hard-drives ;)

I've thought about it. But most likely the new owner would be standing over my shoulder to make sure I didn't do something like that. I don't think he expects me to be able to retrieve the file. Rather he is just allowing me time with the computer so that if we do pursue legal action he has something to fall back on. He's in for a surprise!

I will try running Ubuntu off a cd. Thanks!

This is an even better bootable CD for tasks like this, sometimes Ubuntu has problems mounting windows drives.

That tool appears to be only for win 2000 and new OS. The operating system i will be working with is at newest windows 98

EDIT: Also how do I boot ubuntu from a cd? If I just burn the iso onto a cd it will just think i am trying to install the OS. Is there a different iso/file i should download?
