Cluster computer software

Hello,
I wondered if you could help me deiced on what software to use for my cluster computer. I've got lots (and still getting) of old PC towers. Now i would like to cluster them and use them, but i still want to use the main PC with XP, yet i cant find many/any software that does that for windows XP. I don't mind what OS the slave PC's are.

Explaining the primary role of a domain controller

Requires active directory (MS only)
Requires organizational units (To control priveledges and user levels (Admin/user/poweruser)

From what i read, its like seting up a network and you need extra hardware such as a network-switch, a computer to use as a "Server" etc
