i would go for the dvd-rw personally and i dont really rip or burn dvd's but its a good feature to have if you need to. other than that im pretty jealous

nice build, minus the vista os of course

Vista is good, you obviously havent tried it on a computer that can run it. My PC runs it just fine and i find getting places in Vista faster than in XP, overall i like XP better. only reason im using XP now though is because my vista is kinda screwed up because of a virus :( got it off though

I don't think it's obvious. I've used Vista on relatively powerful hardware before. It didn't impress me.

lets double that i hated vista at first because compaq decided to put it on my celeron laptop :( but when i ran it on my E2160 with 2Gb RAM ir ran ok. dont get me wrong it still didnt run it perfect because thats still not that greatly powerful but with a mid - high end C2D vista would be my primary OS

also the -- Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800 ??????

now i just think you have more money than sense .. to me it doesnt seem worth having that CPU when the Q6600 is about, obviously the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800 is more powerful but i just dont think the price increase is justified.

also new CPU's in feb - march so im waiting

The weakest machine I run XP on is a P3 866mhz. It runs just as well as 2000 and 98se did on it.

I mean come on, vista is what, 13 gigs install size? why?
requires 2 gigs to run smoothly, why?

I don't care if $80 can get you a 320 gb hard drive, thats still 10 gigs bigger than a typical XP install.
Fun fact: Gears of War is about 10 gigs install size. So what the hell does Vista have in there that rivals the size of a game like that? Bill's porn collection?

I don't care about eye candy. I turn that crap off. Why can't vista run as well as XP on the same hardware with the eye candy turned off?

Even if I have a powerful system, those two reasons will stop me from using Vista. I don't think having a powerful system is enough to stop caring about the OS being a complete memory and hard drive space whore.

I personally wouldn't go with the 8800 GTX, I would shoot for an 8800 GTS (G92)

similar performance but much cheaper!

Get a G92 GTS or a G92 GTX. And that CPU is a waste of money, if I were you i'd buy a Q6600, and use the rest of the money on a second GPU for SLi. You should also try a dual layer DVD-RW instead of a DVD-Rom.
