I don't think it was a bad idea for Sony to include a blu-ray player in the PlayStation 3. It enables higher storage capacities for future games that may not fit on the DVD format, For the price, it's actually a pretty good deal and it gets the format into more homes. The war is far from over. In the end, it is up to the consumer which format wins and which loses. Look at Betamax...in terms of specifications, it was far superior to VHS in every way. Yet it still lost out because of it's expensive prices. The format war will be definately over if any side can convince the porn industry to sway for one format. That's partly how VHS beat out Betamax. Thank the billion dollar porn industry.
I agree. Not every one needs an HD DVD player and for most normal DVDs are fine. If you ask me, it's just like Sony to shove their own proprietary formats down the throats of consumers. Look at the PSP and it's use of Sony's MemoryStick Pro. They could've easily gone with SD or Micro SD, but instead they had to use a proprietary format so you HAD to buy their overpriced memory cards in order to store data on the PSP.
Bloatware is a problem with almost all computer manufacturers, though it's true that Sony went overboard with the Vaio. One of my family members has a HP/Compaq computer and it came with a million AOL trials, Norton Anti-Virus trials and other pointless things. The desktop was filled with it and it included loads of games from (WildTangent?) that were all demos.
@neodude: I laughed hard at that comment. Just because you don't have a high-definition TV doesn't mean you can't experience the games available on the PS3. I have a standard definition 19" piece of junk bargain bin TV and I still enjoy it. Sure, blu-ray's wouldn't be worth but it that doesn't mean you shouldn't buy a PS3 at all if you don't have a HDTV.
