New Build In Early Feb

I doubt your going to go quad core, and I doubt you'll need 4 gigs of ram. Those both sound like overkill. And not indulging in an unnecessary quad-core frees up some cash for a better PSU, Video Card, or better quality RAM.

You can probably spend $1000 right now, and it'll cost $800 by the time February rolls around.

It's easier for me to do things on newegg, so just go along with it:
Abit IP35 Pro: $180

Q6600: $280

4 GB G.Skill: $105

550W Antec: $100

8800GT: $215

There's your basic components for $880. That's a solid build. Add a case and such and you'll be right on budget.

The rest of the Intel Q9XXX series should be out in early January. I think this counts for the E8XXX too.

Also X48 will be out by then.

ok sorry guys i should have clearly pointed out.

IM NOT A GAMER.

the pc will be used for general internet use photo shop, dreamweaver and some light programming,

and also before you start shouting at me saying you dont need a quad core.

i want a pc that will last me a long time my pentium D was old withing 2 months, so i want the quad core to still be able to cut it in a years time hopefully longer,

so take away the 8800 and ill probably jus get the 8600 i mean i was thinking of just using my old 7300 as i say the only reason i buy additional graphics cards is to dual screen, and yes i know the 7300 is a terrible terrible card but i dont game lol.

i bet that £400 budget looks a lil better without a beasty G card doesnt it.

@zkilla i do have a previous computer that i built myself but im gonna turn it into a web server so the only thing i can take out of it is 1 of my DVD RW drives, coz i dont need 2 for a web server.

is there n e rumours on the price of them i mean ive heard the new quads are going to be extremely expensive,

is there n e thing that will rival the Q6600 in price/performance ratio.

Edit :

this looks good,

the Q9300,

on that website its $330 canadian dollars so lemme conver tthat to uk £168, definately worth considering

If you downgrade the GPU, definitely upgrade the motherboard, and maybe get DDR3. Probably an X38 chipset with some DDR3. I'd say get 2 gigs of fast DDR3 over 4 gigs of slower RAM, because you can always add 2 more gigs later.

yeah sounds good lemme get a rough parts list together now.

ill edit in a mo.

ok lets give these a try see what you think.

RAM : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/119738 X 2

Motherboard : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/129126

Processor : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131950

Hardrive : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/124228

Power Supply : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/115161

HS&F : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/105994

not sure on case yet.

now thats quiet a bit over budget and thats without a GPU :(

help me lol

I don't think DDR3 is worth it over DDR2 for huge price leap, it's no much faster really, but it is more future proof and like ssc said, that's what he want it to be. But I think some of the X38 mobos support DDR2 and DDR3 RAM, so maybe you could buy some DDR2 now and then when DDR3 comes down to a reasonable price in about 6 months you could upgrade. Just a thought.
