ok well some1 had to ask it, and ive not seen n e threads like this recently so here goes,

in terms of value for performance which is better,

the phenom 9600 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/136388/show_product_specifications

at a extremely cheap £122

or the

Q6600 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131950

still cheap at £159,

which is better im thinking of a new build in the new year and im like 80% sure i want the Q6600 partly becuase every1 is so happy with it and partly because i have never used AMD and im scared of them lol, im scared of the unknown.

what do you think is the best CPU and what CPU's will be released in the first quarter of 08 it might be worth me waiting ?

Edit: according to tomshardware the q6600 comes out on top slightly but is it worth the extra £40 / $80

Edit 2 : ok the Q6600 dominates the 9500 look http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=1076&model2=871&chart=422

im gonna compare some more. looks like even if i spent the extra for the 9600 the q6600 would still win

Edit 3 : lmao question answered http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=1076&model2=871&chart=444

Let's look at the 3DMark06 results:
http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=871&model2=1076&chart=419

The Q6600 gets 3507, the Phenom 9500 gets 3245.
I'm gonna do this in USD...$280 versus $200 on newegg.

3507/280 = 12.5 points / $ for the Q6600

3099/200 = 15.5 points / $ for the Phenom 9500

So it looks like the Phenom has a slight edge on the bang for buck side of things. But $80 extra for a pretty big jump in performance...I'd still go with the Q6600.

And that's not even counting overclocking. Most people don't have too much trouble OCing a Q6600 to 3.6 GHz...which would just blow any AMD processor away.

Q6600 because it overclocks to over 3.4ghz then that obliviously better performance then the 2.2 9600

im not voting but i would say q6600 since the phenom is almost brand new and it isnt yet perfected

Quad core Intel, the new AMD Phenoms have a very very very troubling processor erratum. In order to fix this, the performance decrease is over 10% and the fix must be applied as a bios patch.

That's only in a very small amount of them though.

Poor AMD, I feel sorry for them... But I had to vote for the Q6600, because it is a much better performing processor for the money. That's the harsh truth AMD.

AMD was too anxious to release the Phenom core, which probably means they rushed the production, and haven't yet perfected it.

Go for the Q6600 if you have the extra $80.

Man those results are really depressing, i was looking at buying one of those, but i still will, i have always loved AMD

and by the looks of it, this was im my opinion AMD final thing they could do before Intel took over and just started dominating. All i can say is AMD better have some goo stuff up there sleeves or else its not going to look good.
