video card major problem

i just updated my video card but now my computer doesn't recognize it. So when i go into monitor properties and try to change the settings i cant and the max settings are 640x480 resolution and lowest color settings of 4 not the usual 1280x1024 and 32. My video card is a 256mb EVGA 6800GT. I have tried different drivers and the result are the same. System restore is not possible. Is my video card burnt out?

what did you have before the 6800?

the stock card that came with the computer, a Nividia 6100. If this helps my computer is a Hp m7570n media center pc. 915 intel dual core processor, 2 gigs of ram pc4200, and a 300gb hd.
