I have a HDTV, and It doesnt upscale anything.

I bought the upconverting dvd player and it makes quite a difference.

lol thats why theres a "picture mode" button on your remote (or something to that extent)

yes i know, thats why the tv can do it and by the way, you can't increase the quality of the initial source either way, with or without an upscaling dvd player. it only stretches it so that stupid people don't have to press another button on their tv remote

No, but most newer ones have progressive scan which isn't bad.

Yeah standard HDTV's will scale as in stretch, but they won't upscale.
