Im more of an Nvidia person myself, but i've looked at prices and notice ATI is considerably cheaper, what is a good 8600gt equivalent in ATI? or 8800GT in ati? i think for my next dual core build im going to use ATI and AMD, maybe ATI crossfire eventually...

Thanks,
Kyle

Hmm.. I really don't know that there is a 8800GT equivalent. there is the 3780.. it's a little bit cheaper and performs a little less.. but price-performance ratio is pretty solid.

If your just going for a cheap system, then I guess AMD is a decent choice. But if your gonna do some serious gaming, I'd suggest saving for an intel core 2 duo or core 2 quad.

I'm pretty happy with my 4200 X2.. but Unreal Tournament 3 is bottlenecked by it.. so yeah. My next system is gonna be Intel unless AMD gets their shit together (and judging by phenom, that isn't going to happen anytime soon.)

I do know the equivelent to the 8600 and its the x1950pro BUT its dx9 .. on another note it performs better on benchmarks.

ya, i can def. not afford a core 2 duo or quad, thats why im doing a x2 4200 which ill oc as much as possible, im just torn between dual nvidia's or dual ati's ive heard crossfire is more effective than sli and ati is WAY cheaper...

i myself wouldnt get a ati card. if you want one for a equialent of the 8800 series, get a 2900 for a bit less peformance
