Get the quad if you can afford it. You can overclock it pretty easily if you get a good chip Look what I have mine set too.
If your going Vista 64bit, 4gb's may be good, but if your going for a 32bit operating system, like for instance, what I have, only 3gb's would be seen of the 4gb.
I personally really like the Samsung Spinpoint drives. They got really good reviews, and they are very fast indeed, and also quieter than the Barracuda's I got. I've got 2 running in RAID 1 in a mirror to protect my storage.
With it in the config I have, its slightly slower at writing, but faster at reading.
