building new computer

Get the quad if you can afford it. You can overclock it pretty easily if you get a good chip :) Look what I have mine set too.

If your going Vista 64bit, 4gb's may be good, but if your going for a 32bit operating system, like for instance, what I have, only 3gb's would be seen of the 4gb.

I personally really like the Samsung Spinpoint drives. They got really good reviews, and they are very fast indeed, and also quieter than the Barracuda's I got. I've got 2 running in RAID 1 in a mirror to protect my storage.
With it in the config I have, its slightly slower at writing, but faster at reading.

Thanks :)

Someone recommended this 4gb hard drive instead if the Kingston--
mushkin 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail Cas 5-4-4 ($120 after rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146731

which would be $30 more than the kingston...is that worth it?

Also I heard that the sound card is not good for gaming and I should use this on
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Xtreme Gamer Sound Card Retail ($80)
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=290247

which is alos another $20 added...is that worth changing?

I think I would rather purchase the Vista 64 bit over the 32 bit. Should I get basic, premium or ultimate?

Thanks for the help guys :D

Well, Kingston is a good brand from what I know, and unless the memories faster (is 5-4-4 faster than the others?) then I wouldn't really bother paying the bigger price.

Hmm... Well, that sound card will be good. Personally, I got the Xtreme Music, but I can't seem to find it anymore, which had game power, and also good audio power.
The Xtreme Gamer will be good though if you game alot yes, as it will have added sound features used for environmental effects in games, but the Xtreme Audio should have them also, but maybe not the latest one used in some new games.

As for Vista...hmm... 64 bit will be worth going for yes, and as for the version, thats up to you. I'd probably opt for the middle ground, so Premium, as the Basic version throws away too many features for my liking, for instance, the Aero effect.

Right now its a step above $1200, I'm hoping shipping wont be too bad since I'm getting the parts from only 2 different places, then about $100 for vista premium 64x is right now what I need then I'll see how I like my present monitor and find a good deal on another one...then possible a tv tuner to watch some good stuff on my computer

I do not know if I want to upgrade the parts again just cause i've done it a few times and at first it was like a $130 CPU upgraded twice to now $280..I think I should be good about now

I'm about in the final stages of this...thanks alot guys for all your input :)
