Yes, virtually any of the dual core processors are far faster than any consumer single core processor.

Also, their is an architectural difference between the Pentium 4 and Core 2 Duo. Each core of the Core 2 Duo can do more per clock cycle (mhz) than a Pentium 4 could.

For a comparasion, a 1.86ghz Core 2 Duo would be faster than a two P4 3.6's combined. The Core 2 Duo range work like the AMD processors in the way they handle information.
