Hey guys,
I am planning a new build and I want to get a GeForce 8800 GT. The only problem is they only fit PCI-E 2.0 slots (or so newegg says). So what's the deal with that? This is the motherboard I was going to get. So what I'm asking is; what is PCI-E 2.0 and is this mobo compatible with it. Thanks.

i think i read somewhere that pci x16 is the same slot as 2.0.

maby some else will help u further

I just did a little research on it and I guess it is backwards compatible. Can someone expand on it for me?

an 8800GT will work on on older 16x motherboards no problems, you just wont get the extra "performance" increase from PCI-E 2.0. although the performance increase is probably unnoticeable.

The PCI x16 utilizes the same slot as PCI 2.0. So using a 2.0 card in a standard x16 slot will work, but you wont get the full performance out of the card.

oh ok im still on the agp.ahhhh

upgrading for christmas thoe.quad core, 4gb ram,vista,8800gt. SWEET

Well, let's see...erm...AGP is considered dead, but it has still room, enoguh room that it could even take an 8800GT.

As for PCI-E 2.0, all motherboard with the X38 and X48 chipset will be able to have it ATM.
